Mica is one of the most important mineral ingredients in cosmetics, used widely to add shimmer and sparkle. If you ever have used a blue bath bomb, a sparkly eyeshadow, or a hot shiny body wash, those marketed as “shimmer”, “frosty”, “brightening” or “illuminating”, you have used mica in skin care. It is difficult to find any beauty products, colored make up or bath, that does not contain it. But what is Mica?
Mica is a natural soft silicate mineral found in granite, crystals, and other rocks. It can be ground down into a sparkling powder.
Mica is known for its pearlescent properties, which makes it a choice ingredient for use in beauty products, causing it to be referred to as "nature's glitter". Its range of colors vary between the different minerals, from silver, white, pink, purple and golden tones.
Because it is naturally produced it is a particularly well-loved ingredient among organic and natural beauty brands, and is safe to use on almost all skin types with little to no side effects.

ImerCare® 6M natural mica has been specifically engineered to optimize particle size and form so as to provide cohesion and a luminous, transparent effect in pressed powders such as eye shadows, blushers and face powders.
ImerCare® 6M natural mica makes an ideal base for pressed powders and powder compacts.
Unlike other micas which can demonstrate cohesion issues at high loadings, ImerCare® 6M mica can be incorporated at more than 70% into powder formulations while providing:
- Excellent cohesiveness in compact powder
- Good sensorial properties and pick-up
- Good compromise between matte finish and luminosity

Properties:
- In drop tests, the formulation containing 76% ImerCare® 6M mica was twice as cohesive as a formulation containing 76% standard mica.
- High incorporating rate: Formula can contain until 84% of mica.
- No compromise on pick-up.
- Drop tests: most of micas break after 4 drops. ImerCare® 6M is twice more cohesive than standard micas.
